Website Recommendations

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

I don’t often do this, recommend another website, but today is an exception. And the exception is for and exceptional website SPY TOWN that offers a complete line of award winning surveillance gear and some hard to find products like gas detectors, heat detectors, sirens and shock sensors.

They have been around for 20 plus years and are a leader in the industry for products and service-yes that elusive commodity-service both before and after the sale.

I recommend that you stop by their website and their blog for Spy Towne for at least a visit. Who knows you may just find that elusive widget you have been looking for. It will be well worth your time.

The Guide to Stun Guns

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

The self defense products industry has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. Most of this is due to the tremendous track record of success that self defense products like stun guns pepper sprays personal alarms and tasers have had. There are literally thousands of them on the market from hundreds of different manufacturers.

When we talk about stun guns like anything else the more you know about it the better your decision-making capabilities in choosing the right one. Here is as much information as you will ever need about stun guns.

Stun guns have been used by military and law enforcement personnel for decades with tremendous success. To me that is a great endorsement. Some people have a difficult time justifying deadly force in any situation. That’s where a nonlethal alternative comes into play. Their purpose is to allow you time to get away from a dangerous situation and seek help.

A stun gun is electrical device with two prongs on one end. The prongs conduct an electrical charge when a trigger or button is pushed. The electrical charge causes a disruption in the body’s nervous system that controls muscle movement. This overwhelms the neuro-muscular system causing a loss of balance and confusion. The energy from the stun gun causes the muscles to work very rapidly depleting it of all blood sugars that are needed for energy.

A half second application can cause some pain. A one or two second dose will cause muscle spasms and confusion. A 3 to 5 second application will cause the loss of balance and muscle control, confusion and disorientation. Assailants have been known to curl up in the fetal position with a 5 second application unable to do any thing. Stun guns are on average 86% effective. Stun guns cause no lasting damage to an assailant.

The best places to apply stun gun are the upper right and left shoulder, lower right or left rib cage or upper hip on either the right or the left side-so six targets in all. Stun guns must be applied to the attacker but will go through up to 1/2 inch of clothing. They use batteries as their power source although some stun guns are rechargeable. They use high-voltage and low amperage to disable attackers.

Voltages on stun guns range from 80,000 to 4.5 million volts. Voltage is important because the more power you have the last time is needed to get the desired effect. In an assault situation a second can be in maternity.

There are several stun guns that are over 1,000,000 volts starting with the double trouble stun gun at 1.2 million volts, the multi-function stun gun at 2.7 million volts and the runt stun gun with new voltages of 2.5 million 3.5 and 4.5 million volts. The new pretender stun gun is 4.5 million volts also. The hotshot stun gun is one of the smallest stun guns available and is 975,000 volts.

The more powerful stun guns are a little bit more expensive for sure. But we are talking about your self defense and your life may be in the balance- cost should not be an issue. I know of no stun gun that costs more than $100 at any rate. Discounts are almost always available. Most stun guns have a lifetime warranty and usually come with a holster and batteries if needed.

Some stun guns common disguised as cell phones, camera cell phones and flashlights.

One of the most popular stun guns is the telescopic stun baton which has proven to be a customer favorite in defending against dog attacks.

Most stun guns are about the size of the palm of your hand making them easy to conceal and carry. Some people like security guards and club bouncers need and intimidating stun gun. One model is nearly 9 inches tall and 775,000 volts-enough to scare anyone.

I always advise that if you feel threatened to hold overcharging stun gun up for an assailant to see the flying sparks and here are the intimidating noise. Sometimes that is enough to scare them away. Stun guns are not legal in some states so check with your local Sheriff’s Department for the legality before you buy one.

Finally be alert and try and stay out of dangerous situations. Use common sense and carry a powerful stun gun.

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

As break ins and burglaries are for ever on the increase you need to beat them at their own game by installing one or more home security devices. That’s exactly what Shane did and considers it money very well spent!

Shane and his family didn’t live in a bad neighborhood; it was considered to be quite affluent when he had moved in. Times change but the city lowlifes still viewed it as a place where money lived. The crime rate had steadily increased and was now quite alarming.

In the past 3 months two of Shane’s neighbors had been burgled and it wasn’t just the material things that they had taken, it was the damage they did in the process. Slashing treasured photos and urinating on the carpet and soft furnishings.

Shane wasn’t prepared to put his family through this trauma so had a full Wireless Security System security system installed, window and door alarms locks and including 2 dummy cameras which acted as decoys.

His wife thought he had spent more than was necessary but Shane was positive he had done he right thing; he was proved right only 6 weeks later. Three young drug addicts decided to target Shane’s house one night. They spotted the dummy CCTV camera and ripped it down.

These weren’t classy burglars; they looked through the window, planned what they were going to grab and tried to jam open the window. It wouldn’t budge; Shane’s locks were doing their job. Getting more frustrated, the thieves used further force to pop the window. Unbeknown to the troublesome pair, the trauma on the lock had activated the alarm.

Before they knew it, the police arrived and cuffed them. It later turned out that these were the same guys who had been going round the neighborhood and had a stash of stolen goods that they were selling gradually to feed their habits. Shane had not only protected his home, but had put some criminals behind bars for a long time.

Law enforcement officials have been using them for decades with great success. Most self defense products are straightforward items. Pepper Sprays-A Department of Justice report states that pepper sprays are 85% effective thus are a great choice for self defense. They use Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) from hot cayenne pepper.

A shot in the face of an attacker from OC spray causes breathing problems, temporary blindness from the eyes actually closing, choking and coughing and PAIN. There is no permanent damage to the attacker.

Some disguised pepper sprays include: the lipstick pepper spray in five colors and a range of ten feet; the Pepper Pager a shot of 10% OC concentration in a package that looks just like a pager so you can wear it on your belt for fast access; and hot walkers-10% OC spray inside one pound walking weights with foam covered grips.

The Most Popular Stun Gun for Women

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

It is no secret that violence against women is near an all time high. Assaults, domestic violence, rapes and more happen against women by a 9 to one margin over men. Women are of course concerned about their own personal safety and personal protection. The best way they can protect themselves is to learn some self defense and carry some pepper spray and perhaps a stun gun for their own safety.

There are so many self defense products on the market that it can be confusing learning how they all work etc. Pepper sprays, stun guns, tasers, personal alarms and self defense courses all have their place in your self defense strategy. Frequently though folks ask me what is the best self defense product for women?

My female customers overwhelmingly prefer the pretender stun gun.

Stun guns are hand held devices that usually have two metal prongs on one end that conduct an electrical charge. When applied to an assailant for 3 or more seconds the charge causes the muscles to overwork depleting the body of needed blood sugars for energy. The result: 3-5 minutes to getaway from a dangerous situation and seek help.

The pretender is a 950,000 volt stun device that looks juts like a camera cell phone giving the user the added advantage of surprise which can be critical in an assault situation. It also has a bright 12 LED flashlight. It comes with free batteries, free leatherette holster and a lifetime warranty.

This self defense tool is one of the best there is and is perfect for seniors too.

It is easy to see why women love it so much. It also comes in Hot Pink Pretender Stun Gun. Check out another popular Cell Phone Stungun

The Telescopic Stun Baton-Man’s Best Friend’s Best Friend

Dog’s Best Friend?

Every year millions of Americans who love the outdoors and try to enjoy it are threatened by dogs on the loose. Those who love to walk, run, jog, or cycle are targets. For folks who own dogs those dogs are potential victims as well.

I am starting to walk again myself after a year long bout with a bad back. It is good to be back outside getting some much needed exercise. But boy oh boy hardly a day goes by when I don’t see a loose dog or dogs.

I don’t have a dog myself but I get emails form folks whose dogs have been attacked by those dogs on the loose. A dog is an animal and remains unpredictable. I have had some loose dogs coming charging at me which is just as scary as an attack. No more.

I got myself the telescopic stun baton. This self defense weapon was designed to use against 2 footed assailants. My customers all over the country use it against dogs when they are out walking or taking man’s best friend for a walk.

It comes in a hip holster for easy carrying. At the very first sign of trouble un-holster the stun baton and hold it up-kind of “at the ready.” If the dog or assailant continues towards you press the button which extends it from a modest 13 inches to 21.5 inches and electrifies the last 8.5 inches with 800,000 volts of hair raising power.

The baton also has a loud 120 db alarm and light. It is rechargeable too saving you some loot.

The sight and sound, the crackling noise and blue sparks of a charging stun gun is enough to scare off the bad guys or bad dogs. It certainly will get their attention.

Some dog tips to keep you safe.

1. Give strange dogs a wide berth and never approach a strange dog.
2. Let a dog sniff you first before you pet him.
3. Don’t ever turn your back or run away.
4. Don’t disturb a dog while sleeping, eating or chewing on a toy.
5. Always be cautious around dogs.

I couldn’t find any stats on how many dogs get bitten by other dogs but each year man’s “best friend” bites that friend 4.7 million times according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Of those, 800,000 Americans seek medical attention annually for dog bites-half of these are children.

Chances are if you are reading this that crime has touched your life in some way or you consider yourself at risk from dog attacks. Take the next step and do something to protect yourself! Your life and safety is worth far more than the cost of a stun gun or pepper spray.

If you are in the market for a self defense product look for quality, effectiveness, and a biggie-LEGALITY. Stun guns, tasers and pepper sprays are not legal in some states. Check with your local police department first before you get one.

Sporting Events

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Two huge sporting events coming up here in Da Springs. First is the second oldest road race in the US. the Pikes Peak International Hill climb aka ‘The race to the clouds’ on 19 July. Many classes of cars, trucks, in a timed event. Who is the fastest? chills, spills and see who goes over the side-no guard rails here bunky. Not for the faint of heart. Dirt road from Glen Cove to the top 14,000 + feet.

The second is the Regency Tower Apt Annual Sailboat Regatta. I first thought this was a joke-nope-Just funny to see my fellow apartment dwellers get so psyched about racing their custom made sailboats in our swimming pool. They practice and tweek their boats for speed and stability. It is their deadly seriousness that I find funny. News and photos at eleven. the big race is in August.

Home security as you probably already know is a huge business. In some respects it makes sense. After all, your home is your most valuable asset. It makes sense then you would spend a fair amount on home security. The opportunity is certainly there to do just that. It can be avoided.

You can get very good protection for very little money with some brand new cheap home security tools that are effective and easy to use and install. The first is the Glass Guard Window Alarm.

This cool gizmo is an effective low cost vibration alarm that can help in securing windows or patio doors. The Glass Guard can also be used as a personal property alarm to protect computers, TVs, stereos and cabinets etc.

You turn the switch on the left side to ‘high’ or ‘low’ to begin operating (there is a delay mechanism of about 7 seconds). When the glass is hit, knocked or cut by anyone, the siren-a whopping 101db-will sound for 10-20 seconds and then reset.

The unit can be set to high or low sensitivity. ‘High Sensitive’ mode will detect a little vibration. ‘Low Sensitive’ mode will need a stronger vibration to make the unit react. The unit will also perform well on wooden or metallic windows and doors. If the unit is not placed in the middle of the door or window, use ‘High’ mode.

The unit requires 2 AAA batteries that are not included.

The second is the versatile shock sensitive Door Guard Alarm that is ideal for home, office, hotel, or travel. It requires no installation just hang it on any doorknob. Once hung, it instantly detects any vibration. When the alarm is tripped, it will emit a 98dB alert for 20-30 seconds, then will reset in 3-5 seconds.

The sensitivity of the alarm is easily adjusted with a screwdriver. The Door Guard can be removed from the doorknob and used as an area light with the switch in the “light” position. The Door Guard is ideal for keeping you and your loved ones safe from harm.

The Door Guard is compact, making it portable so you can take it with you when you travel. It is ideal for anyone and can be used virtually anywhere. Not sure about that shady looking hotel, but can’t beat the price, feel confident and safe. Uses 2 AAA batteries (not included).

Chances are very good that you are reading this because in some way crime has touched your life or you want to be proactive and protect yourself, family, home, or business from the ravages of crime. That is the first step.

NOW the next step is for you to take action. Do something to take that first step-today.

Bear Chase

Friday, April 24th, 2009

bearspray.jpg

The big news yesterday here was about a pregnant lady who was out on a walk and happened upon a bear. She got frightened and ran. The bear ran after her. She got to a road and started to cross when a car hit her. Guess she is okay. DOW officials found the bear and after two tranquilizer shots caught it and put it down.

Apparently there were two other bears nearby that escaped.

As bears look for food this time of year, they become slightly more aggressive. Campers, fishermen, and hikers should always carry bear spray when in the mountains. Bear Spray should always be handy when in the backcountry and maybe in bear neighborhoods.
